WORK EXPERIENCE

Software Engineer - Meta
(April 2024 – Present)

Picture
I have recently joined Meta to help monetize one of their main products, WhatsApp.

Software Engineer - TikTok
(November 2022 – April 2024)

Picture
I joined the Tiktok Data Access team in San Jose to help enable our users to inspire creativity and bring joy. During my time at TikTok I led important projects such as Creator Center, a comprehensive analytics tool for creators, which enhanced user engagement on the app. Furthermore, I strengthened TikTok's transparency and accountability with the community by developing a service in Go and Elasticsearch to support APIs that allow researchers access to public and anonymized data.

Software Development Engineer - Amazon Web Services (AWS)
(September 2021 – October 2022)

Returned to the Amazon Aurora team to help build the next-generation databases for the cloud. During my time at AWS as a full-time engineer, I worked on next-generation projects such as Amazon Aurora Serverless v2. With Serverless V2, customers can set a minimum and maximum capacity for their database instances. Then, the instances' capacity gets adjusted in fine-grained increments in seconds, depending on the current workload requested.

Software Development Engineer Intern - Amazon Web Services (AWS)
(September 2020 – December 2020)

For my last internship, I worked as a Software Development Engineer intern at Amazon Aurora Database service team. Amazon Aurora is a MySQL and PostgreSQL-compatible relational database built for the cloud. Aurora combines the performance and availability of traditional enterprise databases with the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of open-source databases. In my internship, I developed a service in Java that gathers aggregated data about the health and usage of Aurora instances and sends them to a centralized GUI. This system allows AWS to learn how its customers use their Aurora instances and decide in what areas the company should invest.

Research Assistant - UBC ECE
(May 2020 – August 2020)

Processing embedding layers involves the most memory-intensive steps in the inference of recommender systems used by platforms such as Facebook to make suggestions to their users. In this project, I am using Data Processing Units to increase the throughput of embedding operations in the recommender system's inference.

Software Engineer Intern - Intel
(September 2019 – April 2020)

During my time at Intel, I helped the company release one of Intel's next-generation 3D NAND SSD. I achieved this by working in teams to develop APIs and scripts that made our team's debugging and test data-gathering process more efficient. For example, I saved the company more than 1000 hours annually by automating the manual task of gathering performance data. I achieved this by developing a web crawler written in Python that used the Selenium ChromeDriver to scrape the web and access data from relevant directories. Additionally, I designed and developed a debugging solution in C that gathered and provided assert data to firmware engineers.

Developer Analyst Intern - TELUS
(May 2018 – December 2018)

Picture
During my time as a Developer Analyst at TELUS, I not only vastly grew my development skills but also learned how to work in a professional setup to develop and design solutions that solve real customer problems. One of my projects at TELUS was designing and developing a web app called 'ISF Front Door.' ISF Front Door is a tool that helps TELUS team members submit, track, and change projects. Furthermore, I volunteered to take on additional product ownership within his team. After conducting customer interviews with sales, customer service, and data management teams, I validated and distilled a clear value proposition for an internal tool called K2View and recommended to senior executives that we adopt the tool. K2View aggregates data across TELUS' 10 databases and allows internal teams to access data from a single source. In doing so, K2View enables teams to make sound data-driven decisions that better serve TELUS customers.
